What is BAC?

After many years of thinking of a way to bridge the gap between art and the public, the idea for the Braswell Arts Center was born. Since 2017, we are proud to offer dance classes and other artistic experiences for all ages, levels, and body types as well as create fresh initiatives for underprivileged children and development opportunities for emerging artists. The BAC is available for dance performances, concerts, gallery exhibitions, and special events. Through arts education and exchange, the BAC strives to encourage collaboration, creation, networking and entrepreneurship within the local and international arts community.

Mission Statement

The Braswell Arts Center is a space for creativity, collaboration and innovation in all art forms. Our mission at the Braswell Arts Center is to foster a diverse and inclusive community that empowers individuals through comprehensive and innovative arts education. We are committed to nurturing the holistic development of our studentsโ€”physically, mentally, and emotionallyโ€”while preparing them for diverse pathways in life.

Our Values

Diverse Curriculum:

We offer a rich array of artistic experiences and encourage exploration beyond a strict syllabus. Our students are not solely focused on execution, but are nurtured to develop as versatile artists and people.

Our program is designed to develop the complete individual. Alongside training, we also emphasize the equal importance of mental, emotional, and physical health through cross-training, nutrition education, mental health resources, and injury prevention programs.

We welcome and celebrate students and faculty of all genders, races, body types, and abilities. Our community is open and accepting, avoiding any discriminatory practices.

Innovative Choreography:

We nurture creativity through choreography that transcends classical boundaries, engaging with contemporary works and encouraging original compositions.

Student-Centric Teaching:

Our teaching methods value and prioritize student engagement, fostering an environment where students are empowered and encouraged to take ownership of their learning journey.

Positive Feedback and Encouragement:

Our educators are committed to uplifting students through positive reinforcement, constructive criticism, and a nurturing, supportive environment.

Healthy Body Image Promotion:

We actively promote and celebrate a variety of body types, encouraging a healthy, loving relationship with one's own body.

Parent and Community Engagement:

We believe in open communication with parents and actively involve our community in our centerโ€™s life through performances, decision-making, and a collaborative approach to arts education.

Contemporary Training Methods:

Our curriculum is informed by the latest research in the arts and education, employing a diverse range of teaching styles adapted to individual student needs.

Professional Development for Teachers:

Use of Technology:

We embrace the digital age, incorporating virtual classes, video analysis, and online resources as integral components of our educational approach.

Diverse Professional Pathways:

For those who wish to have a professional career in dance, we prepare our students for a multitude of careers in the dance field, extending beyond performance to include choreography, teaching, dance therapy, and arts administration.

Code of Conduct

At the Braswell Arts Center and the Braswell Arts Pre-Professional Dance Program, we are deeply committed to creating a safe, positive, and nurturing environment for our aspiring dancers. Our program operates under a comprehensive Code of Conduct that outlines the expectations and standards for our students, parents, teachers, and staff. This Code of Conduct is designed to foster a respectful and supportive community within our institution.

We are proud to announce that our Code of Conduct is registered with the Basel Talents Leistungssportfรถrderung and Danse Suisse. These registrations validate our commitment to upholding the highest standards of dance education and ethical behavior.

Director of Rehabilitation and Prevention

In addition to our Code of Conduct, we have taken a significant step to prioritize the mental and emotional health of our young dancers. We have appointed Barbara Handschin Lic. phil., an independent psychologist, as the Director of Rehabilitation and Prevention at our pre-professional program.

Ms. Handschin brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role. Her primary responsibilities include:

  • Providing psychological support and resources to our students,
  • Developing and overseeing a comprehensive prevention and rehabilitation program within our institution,
  • Acting as an independent resource for our young dancers, ensuring that their mental, emotional, and physical well-being is consistently supported and prioritized.

Our studentsโ€™ well-being is at the heart of everything we do at the Braswell Arts Pre-Professional Dance Program. We believe that this commitment, reflected in our Code of Conduct and the appointment of Ms. Handschin, sets a standard of excellence and care that defines our program as a leader in dance education.
