Who can apply?
The BAC Artist Circle is reserved for individuals who are actively engaged in professional artistic work. This includes:

• Professional dancers and choreographers
• Freelance artists with verifiable professional experience

Membership is reserved for professional dance artists whose primary source of income (at least ~50%) is from their artistic work. Acceptance is based on an artist’s ongoing creative and professional practice, not their administrative or business role.

Do I have to live in Basel?
No. While many of our members are local, we have many dancers and teachers coming from Zurich, Bern, Lucerne, and even cities in Germany and France too! Visiting professionals are welcome to apply.

Can I take classes without joining the Artist Circle?
Yes. All classes remain open to the public at the standard rate. The Artist Circle simply provides a reduced professional rate.

How long does approval take?
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Most approvals are confirmed within a few days.

Do I need to reapply every year?
No. Membership automatically renews annually; you may cancel with 30 days’ notice.

Why is there an annual membership fee?
The Artist Circle currently receives no external funding. The 25 CHF annual fee helps us maintain the program and keep the Artist Circle rate at 18 CHF per class. It’s a modest contribution that sustains this initiative for the artists who genuinely benefit from it.

Can I take classes in Studio 2?
Your Artist Circle membership is valid only for Studio 1 classes due to the high demand for Studio 2. If you would like to join a class in Studio 2, you’re welcome to — but you’ll need to pay the regular 40 CHF drop-in rate for those classes.
